Aralık 2010 ayında Konya’daki Şeb-i Aruz  etkinliklerine katıldığımızı geçen gün dile  getirmiştik.

We told you already that we joined the Şeb-i Aruz events in December 2010.

When we were in Konya we were invited to a special sema ceremony due to the good connections : ) of our friend Azim: a ceremony of the Mevlevi Order of America. This event was hosted by Süleyman Hayati Dede’s (Sheikh of Konya) son postneshin Jelaleddin Loras. The sema ceremony, which was a masterpiece of women and men, was very impressive.

It was surprising that American’s are taking care of Mevlevi tradition (at least for Nalan, who is new in these issues). But immediately the story about Mevlana’s funeral comes into one’s mind.

“Old or young, Muslim or not all the inhabitants of Konya attended Mevlana’s funeral. Even Christians and Jews were behaving like Moslems as if they felt the same sorrow and they were crying and shouting. Moslems could not make them go away by sticks or swords. When they said to them, ‘What is the relation between this occasion and you? This religion and Sultan Mevlana are ours. He is our Imam.’ Then, they said: ‘We understood the realities of Moses, Jesus and the other prophets from his clear words and saw in him the nature and behaviour of the mature prophets that we had read in our books. If you are his friend, we are his friends, too. He said that 72 nations listened to their secret from them and that they were a flute that gave hundreds of sounds out of a screen. Mevlana’s body is the sun of realities that shines on people and gives them favour. All of the world likes sun. All houses are being lightened by its light.”

    Hey Nicolas and Nalan,
I’m very pleased you understood the significance of Postneshin Celaluttin Loras invitation to us to come to the very special zikr at Hayati Dede Tekke, Meram, Konya. He is a very old friend … and I am delighted you can see how the Mevlevi tradition is being returned to its core values, away from ‘spiritual jealousies’ and political/ religious power seeking by him. This reform is overdue and necessary in a living tradition, in the 21st Century…we saw women dancing, including his wife. As they did for 300 years after Mevlana’s death…until the process of creeping accomodation to state and religious power structures began.
He was sent by Sulieman Dede, his father, a very gentle man who lectured all over the world, directly to America when he finished his education. “Tomorrow morning you go to America” Celaluttin told me, just after his fathers death, were the words of his father. Because of a prophecy of Mevlana that this way would go to the West (implication…would survive in its reality ONLY by going to the West) 700 years later after his exit…Bulent Rauf and other Melami friends (who are also Mevlevi Seyhs from Sefik Can, charged to transmit the Melami teachings of the Mevlevi) simularly made efforts to transmit to the West and set up schools there. My own work is in the re-introduction of these living forms into Turkey…”Returning Home”, stripped of Dogma and for the 21st century…
