(Thoughts on a northbound train, April 2013.)
The seed is a gift from the heavens. It speaks of eternity, the ever-present here-and-now: it dies and is reborn continually, the seasons change in cycle, but it remains present. A presence hidden within the life of the plant, a true presence, bearing all the information of seasons past and future.
A seed can change: not in its essence, but in how it adapts. Within it lies the wisdom of Spirit, who always knows where to be, what to do & when.
It is Spirit that gives seed its wisdom: the scientists may call it DNA or whatever they like. DNA is spiritual wisdom manifested in matter.
A plant’s root is connected to the element of earth – the leaf, its connection to water – the flower, its connection to air – the fruit, its connection to fire. The seed is beyond all that: the seed is the plant’s intrinsic imprint, the seed is a manifestation of Spirit.
Spirit brings everything together: its nature is love and wisdom (because it knows). Spirit uses the 4 elements to manifest itself in the material world. The seed is passed on from mother to child, from friend to friend, from master to disciple, from heart to hand.
In the beautiful order of the cosmos, nothing is amiss.
Everything is carefully & thoughtfully placed, everything is wisely designed, everything fits. If only we studied this wonderful design with respect! To study this design is to acquire wisdom, and I believe that the very original/primary intent of the design is indeed to manifest wisdom, care, and love. There can be no better teacher, no better guru, no surer way to the stars. Eternity is here, ever-present in the moment of now, in the ever-present quality of the seed.
Saving seeds we save a ray of ever-present Spirit, a holographic fragment of the Grand Design.
Saving seeds has become political, and rightly so (because it is a practice of freedom & celebration of independence) but it is primarily a spiritual affair.
Saving seeds is a place where politics and spirituality, the below and the above, meet – it is about freedom, and the realization of eternity, and how to live our lives in dignity and consciousness.
